Strengthen Your Alliance. Fight for
Territory.
The stand-alone Guild Wars: Factions is the second campaign in ArenaNet's
massively multiplayer online RPG, The Factions campaign, which can be played
either connected with the regular Guild Wars or as its own separate game. Guild
Wars Factions takes place on the continent of Cantha, where new and existing
Guild Wars players join an epic quest to defeat an ancient evil and save a
war-torn empire.
New scored challenge missions and strategic competitive missions allow players
to test their role-playing prowess and earn the right for their alliance to take
control of cities, towns and outposts. Large-scale alliance battles pit teams
from opposing factions against each other in a struggle to conquer new territory
and redraw the battle lines across the continent of Cantha. New elite missions
allow the most skilled players exclusive access to areas of the ultimate
cooperative challenge.

A Continent torn Asunder

hatred and fury of a traitor brought to justice. Now, in the midst of a
brutal civil war, the malignant spirit of the traitor Shirto Tagachi has
returned to complete the destruction he began. Join more than one million
players around the world to defend Cantha against this new menace as you explore
its jade seas, petrified forests, and lush urban cities. This time, it's
up to you!

Two completely new character types: the Assassin and Ritualist. Both of these
characters should provide new ways for old players to experience the game and
more choice for those that have never stepped into ArenaNet's fantasy universe.
The Assassin
Exclusive to the continent of Cantha, the Assassin is a deadly combo of agility
and double weapon damage. These characters can appear and disappear from combat,
striking a heavy blow then retreating before an enemy can retaliate. They wear
light-weight armor with lots of room for mobility, making it the ideal
profession for those who value swiftness over brute force. The challenge
in designing the look for the assassin was in creating something that was both
fresh and recognizable. Everyone has an image of what an assassin should look
like, but rarely do those images agree. For the Guild Wars Assassin, weapons are
a fashion statement, which is the way it ought to be if your job is delivering
death.
The Ritualist
A cross between a necromancer and a monk, Ritualists use energies from the
spirit realm to cast their spells. New arrivals to Cantha are frequently
unnerved by these spellcasters. Ritualists appear to walk around blind,
routinely covering their eyes and instead relying on an Inner Sight to find
their way through the spirit world. The bones of small animals are a
common element in the garb worn by Ritualists. They claim the magic in once-live
objects brings them closer to the spirits that once inhabited the physical
flesh.
