It has been nearly fifteen years since the war between the orcs and humans
ended.
An uneasy peace settled over the land while, for years, the drums of war were
silent. Yet the kingdoms of men grew complacent in their victory - and slowly,
the defeated orcish clans regrouped under the banner of a new visionary leader.
The savage, green-skinned Orcs are one of the most prolific races of the
Warcraft world. Although few are aware of it, the Orcs once cultivated a noble,
Shamanistic society on the world of Draenor. Relatively speaking, Humanity is
one of the world's youngest races. Unlike Elves and Dwarves, Humans live brief
lives full of change and strife.
Now a darker shadow has fallen over the world, threatening to extinguish all
life - all hope. The drums of war play upon the winds once again - rising
urgently towards the inevitable hour when the skies will rain fire - and the
world will tremble before the coming of the Burning Legion.
The Day of Judgment has come...

Four unique races ... Armed with distinctive units,
magical abilities, and weapons of war.
Human Alliance Race
Relatively speaking, Humanity is one of the youngest races of the world. Unlike
Elves and Dwarves, Humans live brief lives full of change and strife. Thus,
Humanity pushes itself to achieve great heights in empire-building, technology,
and magical study. It is for this reason that Human kingdoms have expanded so
drastically in such short periods of time. Overall, Humanity values virtue and
honor and seeks only to safeguard itself against the forces of darkness. Aided
by the Holy Light, Humanity has fought the hardest and suffered the most during
the war against the Orcish Hordes.
Orcish Horde Race
The savage, green-skinned Orcs are one of the most prolific races of the
Warcraft world. Born on the hellish world of Draenor, the Orcs were brought into
the kingdom of Azeroth through the dimensional gateway known as the Dark Portal
and forced to make war upon the Humans. The Orcs are typically believed to be
brutal and mindless, possessing no humanity or empathy for other races. Although
few are aware of it, the Orcs once cultivated a noble, Shamanistic society on
the world of Draenor. Yet the proud Orc clans were corrupted by the Burning
Legion and used as pawns in the Legion's invasion of Azeroth. In recent years
the Orcs have begun to release themselves from the Demons' corruption, and
rekindle their ancient, noble traditions.
Night Elf Sentinels Race
The reclusive Night Elves were the first race to awaken in the World of
Warcraft. These shadowy, immortal beings were the first to study magic and let
it loose throughout the world nearly ten thousand years before Warcraft I. The
Night Elves' reckless use of magic drew the Burning Legion into the world and
led to a catastrophic war between the two titanic races. The Night Elves barely
managed to banish the Legion from the world, but their wondrous homeland was
shattered and drowned by the sea. Ever since, the Night Elves refused to use
magic for fear that the dreaded Legion would return. The Night Elves closed
themselves off from the rest of the world and remained hidden atop their holy
mountain of Hyjal for many thousands of years. As a race, Night Elves are
typically honorable and just, but they are very distrusting of the 'lesser
races' of the world. They are nocturnal by nature and their shadowy powers often
elicit the same distrust that they have for their mortal neighbors. Two
nations of warriors new to the Warcraft Universe; the plague-ridden Undead and
the mysterious Night Elves.
Undead Scourge Race
The horrifying Undead army called the Scourge consists of thousands of walking
corpses, disembodied spirits, damned mortal men and insidious extra-dimensional
entities. The Scourge was created by the Burning Legion for the sole purpose of
sewing terror across the world in anticipation of the Legion's inevitable
invasion. The Undead are ruled by Ner'zhul, the Lich King, who lords over the
icy realm of Northrend from his frozen throne. Ner'zhul commands the terrible
plague of undeath which he sends ever southward into the human lands. As the
plague encroaches on the southlands, more and more humans fall prey to
Ner'zhul's mental control and life-draining sickness every day. In this way,
Ner'zhul has swelled the ranks of the already considerable Scourge. Though
Ner'zhul and his Undead Scourge are bound to the will of the Burning Legion, the
Lich King constantly strives to free himself and gain vengeance upon the demons
for damning him so completely.
Two New Nations of Warriors
The Warcraft universe grows with the introduction of two new races for players
to control.
The Night Elves are mysterious, shadowy beings and are one of the eldest
races of the world. They have emerged from centuries of seclusion to defend the
world from the coming apocalypse. The Undead is a plague-ridden army known as the
Scourge that has come from the frozen wastelands of the North to topple
civilization in its darkest hour.
A World in 3 Dimensions
Blizzard is powering Warcraft III with its own 3D engine, providing a fully
interactive world that incorporates non-player characters, wandering monsters,
neutral towns, strongholds and temples, and environmental effects.
Multiplayer Mayhem
Expanded multiplayer options over Battle.net® - multiple game types
(including team play and questing) and new game matching and tournament options.
High Resolution Support
Warcraft III offers support for multiple resolutions and will take advantage of
many features included with the latest 3D cards while supporting as broad a
range of older cards as possible.

experience and acquire special items. As the core of each race's force, Heroes
have the ability to advance in levels, learn new spells and abilities and confer
special benefits to nearby units.
Special Items and Equipment
Legendary Heroes can carry up to six special items in a small inventory. The
items can turn the tide of battle as they grant the Hero the ability to cast
offensive and defensive spells, heal units, utilize special abilities or gain
bonuses to specific statistics.
Neutral Buildings
Several types of Neutral Buildings exist, each with a different function. From
selling Hero Items, hiring out Mercenaries, to healing nearby units of hit
points, these structures confer a wide variety of strategies and surprises for
even the most veteran of players.
Neutral Units
There are numerous Neutral Units - known as Creeps and Critters - that inhabit
the world of Azeroth. Creeps are hostile units that relinquish Gold when killed
and sometimes guard valuable resources or Neutral Buildings. Critters are
friendly neutral units such as sheep or seals.

Creeps
Even the most expert travelers must be wary, for in the exploration of any map
they're bound to encounter a variety of Creeps. Creeps are neutral units that
generally don't like you, regardless of what type of blood runs through your
veins. They will attack unprovoked, and they're very protective of their camps.
This camp loyalty means that the Creeps will be in the same place on any given
map anytime you explore that map.
If your hale and hearty band of travelers can keep their wits about them long
enough to do battle with the various Creeps that populate each map, they stand
to profit from their bravery. It's a well-known fact that once vanquished,
Creeps give up varying amounts of experience, gold, and sometimes even valuable,
mystical items--the tougher the Creep, the greater the reward. Creeps also give
up the ghost permanently when you vanquish them, so your stalwart troops won't
ever have to re-vanquish any Creep respawns.
Some Creeps might be willing to suppress their distaste for you long enough
to join your cause...for the right price. These Creeps can be purchased at the
Mercenary Camp. Otherwise, expect to stumble across hostile Creeps near town
exits, at various choke points around the map, around extra Gold Mines, and
defending Neutral Buildings. Ah the variety of Creeps you'll see...this page
lists but a few of them.
Rock Golem: Rock Golems are huge, lumbering creatures that were
crafted from magically imbued stone. These unthinking automatons were created to
act as guardians over precious treasures and entranceways - and occasionally as
bodyguards for eccentric wizards. Rock Golems are incredibly durable and feel no
pain from either physical or magical attacks. They never tire - and they never
relent their brutal attacks once activated.
Red Dragon: Ruled by the mighty Dragon queen, Alextrasza, the Red
Dragons exemplify the grace and serenity of life and nature. Though the Orcs
captured the Dragon queen and raised her whelps as living weapons during the
Second War, the Red Dragon flight has since regained its former power and sworn
to uphold its ancient charge of defending the wild things of the world. Though
noble and wise, Red Dragons are terrible enemies when their wrath is incurred.
Their destructive, fiery breath is feared by all races - the Orcs in particular.
Ogre Lord: Using their immense bulk to terrorize their lesser ilk into
service, Ogre Lords are often encountered guarding Gold Mines, Healing Pools and
other valuable locations. Although they do not cast spells, Ogre Lords make up
for their lack of magic with pure brawn, blasting their tree-trunk sized clubs
into their enemies' skulls with unequaled fury.
